Wissenschaftshistoriker*innen, Mathematiker*innen und Mathematikhistoriker*innen untersuchen die sich entwickelnden Tagungstraditionen in der Zeit von 1945 bis 1960. Sie beleuchten dabei die Entwicklung des MFO vom 1944 gegründeten „Reichsinstitut für Mathematik“ zu einem seit den 1960er Jahren international anerkannten Tagungsort, der sich durch eine besondere, durch engen persönlichen Austausch geprägte Atmosphäre auszeichnete. Zugleich zeigen sie, welche Bedeutung die Zusammenkünfte in Oberwolfach für die disziplinäre Entwicklung der Mathematik in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland nach 1945 hatten. Der Band soll zu weiteren historischen Studien einladen. Umfangreiches Quellenmaterial hierfür liefern unter anderem die vielfältigen und zahlreichen Dokumente des Oberwolfach Digital Archive, die auch die wichtigste Quellengrundlage für die Beiträge dieses Bandes bildeten.
